Last night in Houston the two leading candidates for this years MVP faced off. Neither player disappointed Giannis Antetokounmpo finished with 27 PTS and 21 REBS in the victory. James Harden finished with a game 42 PTS and 11 REBS. That gives Harden 13 straight games of 30 PTS or more. He’s averaging 40.6 PTS 6.8 REBS 9.6 AST over this stretch.
Last nights win put the Bucks in first place in the eastern conference. They are now a half a game up on the Raptors. This gives Milwaukee the best overall record in the league. In the tightly contested West, the Rockets as of last night are 6th in the west. One game separates the Rockets from the 4th seeded Clippers.
Giannis has been playing outstanding basketball this season from the start. He is leading Milwaukee to one of the best seasons in franchise history. This Bucks franchise has been thirsting for success. They haven’t had a team this good since the Ray Allen, Glenn Robinson, Sam Cassell days. He is having a career year in statistics across the board, and he is doing this without a jump shot. He is punishing teams at the rim and leads the league coming into yesterdays game in dunks.
James Harden is currently having a stretch that is going to go down in history as one of the most dominant offensive seasons a guard has ever had. His play is redefining the guard position as we speak. He’s putting up numbers that have him in rarefied air. He is making a case to win his second MVP trophy.
Giannis has been the front runner for the award up to this point, and this road win over last years MVP is going to strengthen his case to win the award. Harden had a slow start to the season and the Rockets struggled out of the gate. The voters might look at the head to head matchup between these two to help decide this years MVP. Make no mistake these two are your front-runners for the award. I look forward to the Beard and the Freak battling out the rest of the season. We are witnessing something historic, so sit back grab some popcorn and enjoy.
